This hospitality landscape lighting project right outside of Chattanooga was one of our favorites.  Surrounded by picturesque mountain scenery, Black Creek Club is located in Black Creek Mountain Community, less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga.

The club was ranked in the Top 100 Best Residential Golf Courses in the U.S. by Golfweek. The full service club offers grand amenities such as golf, tennis, fine dining, event venue, swimming pools, tennis, walking trails and a dog park.

The objective was to showcase the stunning pool areas with tasteful landscape lighting while offering members and guests’ safety and security after dark. Our lighting designers suggested the decorative, tall lights for this particular area. The medium range bollard lights are available from 24 to 30 inches in height. We chose to use black fixtures for this project. They are also available in: polished stainless steel, brushed stainless steel, powder-coated standard bronze or dark green, or powder-coated in custom colors. The lights have a tempered glass lens and require a concrete mount.

The bollard lights (ideal for the hospitality industry) throw an even, round circle of light on the pathway for a more secure walking area. These taller than average landscape lights also helps prevent guests from tripping and falling over the smaller, less obtrusive ground fixtures.

Now that the weather is warm and everyone wants to be outside, play up your outdoor areas with lighting. Festive or string lights are very popular and can make any event feel special. String them across a pool or gazebo or alongside your deck. Even hang them by your dock or boathouse for extra special attention.

Pool and deck lights add safety and beauty to your yard as well. Tree and moon lights ….path and well lights….all play up your homes and property’s best features.  Also, don’t ignore dark areas like side and back yards, garages and dormers. Light up your gardens so guests feel comfortable strolling around admiring the hard work you’ve put into your entertaining areas. Illuminate steps and staircases as well so there are no accidents.

wp blog 2Outdoor lighting can also enhance waterfall and pond areas beautifully. Whether you want a soft glow around your pool or a multi-color light display, you can transform your poolside deck with the right lighting in the right locations. In many cases, we can work with your existing pool lighting to save money on materials and installation. Our low-voltage retrofit kits will enhance your lighting fixtures, using less energy and producing more light around your pool. And with our fully programmable automatic lighting controls, the whole yard can switch on and off each evening.

Thanks for checking back to our blog for Part 2 of the castle in Chattanooga Valley. Now we can talk about the “fun stuff” like ponds, sculptures and water features.

Let’s start with the ponds. We began with bubbles of tree and moon lighting in various corners surrounding the pond. Then we strategically placed lighting fixtures on both sides of the deer sculptures which were installed along the water feature. A combination of submersed lights and above ground fixtures were installed to highlight the bubbling water flowing down hill.

The effect was dramatic. The deer sculptures look like real animals drinking from streams and is a sight to see for the homeowners and visitors every night.

About 10 minutes from downtown Chattanooga along the Tennessee River on Moccasin Bend, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives was asked to design the lighting for a new construction estate.  We got in on the front end of the project before the roof was even built.  The client wanted dramatic lighting to showcase the architectural features of the “castle like” home.  Additionally, the homeowner wanted more than just curb appeal.  Since the home is on the river and faces I-24, they wanted the house to be adequately lit from a distance.

The project took significant planning and design infrastructure.  We began with detailed drawings.  Then began installing underground pipes throughout the property to accommodate wire.  After installing all of the pipes, concrete was poured and then we began core drilling.  We ran wire through the pipes and installed recessed lighting In the concrete to up-light the stone on the castle.  We utilized a combination of high output and standard LEDs well lights or “up lights” to achieve desired results.  The high output LEDs were used on the back to ensure adequate lighting from the river and highway below.  The standard output “up” lights were used on the front of the home and for wall lighting.

Finally we added copper deck lights for the large pergola near the pool.  The deck lights naturally patina and blend in the with stone on the pergola columns.

On Saturday February 28th, the Chattanooga and Hamilton County’s Medical Society hosted its tenth annual Denim and Diamonds fundraiser for Project Access.  Project Access is a broad-based community charity created to provide access to health care for low-income, uninsured individuals in Hamilton County.  This is a much needed service for an overlooked population in Chattanooga and Hamilton County.

Denim and Diamonds Back to the Future GIFThis year’s Denim and Diamonds took place at the Chattanooga Convention and Trade Center and its theme was Back to the Future.  The whole room was decorated and a real Delorean was the center of attention.  Attendees were encouraged to participate in the theme and dress like characters from the different eras represented in the Back to The Future trilogy.  There were people dressed in old Western garb, 50’s sock hop attire, 80’s down vests and leg warmers,as well as many who wore 2015 fashion, which seemed so futuristic in 1985.  Guests were treated to music, dancing, food, and good company all for a good cause.  There was both a silent auction and a live auction where many local businesses donated items and services.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives generously donated a lighting package that included an architectural and landscape lighting daytime consultation, 5 halogen up-lights, a 300 watt transformer, lens covers, labor, wire, a basic timer, and our 1-year maintenance plan.  The lucky winner has the opportunity to upgrade to LED and/or add additional fixtures.  This package went for almost $1000, all to benefit Project Access.  Other live auction items included vacation stays, fine jewelry, and a ride in a helicopter.

Denim and Diamonds’ Back To The Future 2015

This is the third year that Outdoor Lighting Perspectives has participated in the Denim and Diamonds live auction.  It was also the first year that Joe Bozich of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives served on the Denim and Diamonds planning committee.  He attended planning sessions for almost a year and says that the committee members feel that this event was quite a success, as everyone had a good time and tens of thousands of dollars were raised for the Medical Society.

Next year’s theme has yet to be decided but many great ideas are being considered.  To keep up to date with all of Denim and Diamonds’ news, follow them on Facebook here.

Country Dalton Home

Out in the country, just south of Chattanooga, a client called us for lighting on their country home.  This home of one year is located in Dalton, Georgia and sits on several acres of land with a small private lake and even a small vineyard.  The clients are wine enthusiasts and have their own wine bar and cellar in their basement.

They called Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Chattanooga to create nighttime curb appeal, highlight the architectural features of their home, provide some light for outdoor living spaces and illuminate their American flag.

The home had many architectural features to highlight.  Beautifully stacked stone with majestic wooden gables and trusses were among the most prominent.  One challenge was the concrete patio at the base of the house wouldn’t allow for “up” lighting the home.  The only option seemed to be flooding the house with spot lights resulting in washing out the texture of the stone and allowing light to shine into the windows.

It took a lot of creativity, but the up lighting effect turned out beautifully.

It took a lot of creativity, but the up lighting effect turned out beautifully.

So, we had to get creative.  We performed “surgery” on the concrete to discretely run wire to the base of the columns and placed fixtures in some medium sized planters with rosemary plants.  A task that seemed impossible before was now vividly beautiful.

Finally we used high powered LED fixtures to display the moving American flag from two different perspectives.

The results were stunning.  JT of Dalton says, “Outdoor Lighting Perspectives were very prompt getting back to us and came when they said they would.  We are very happy with the new lighting system!”

The stonework of this beautiful Dalton home can now be appreciated day and night.
